"I joined Balance Fitness because I needed a change. I was fit for a 204lb woman, but when I joined I was kind of a mental mess, I was 5 months in a separation with my husband of 30 years. First 6am April 2018 class I was welcomed by Matt, the weights, the music, it was hard, and I loved it. 45 minutes of doing nothing but focusing on the exercises, I was energized. I couldn’t walk down the stairs after. So in a couple of months joined my first 4 week challenge, I believe I lost 14lb, but the meal plan really helped me, I learned how to eat. Plus I won some swag, a BF hat, protein power and 1.5 hours of personal training! Which I didn’t use right away, didn’t want to embarrass myself. My second challenge brought my weight down again, and gave me more tools for eating. Then I used my free personal training sessions with Neil, I couldn’t walk for a week, and second session I cried every time I turned the steering wheel of my car. But even though I called him names, Neil showed me proper form and pace so what I was doing wouldn’t injure me but still see results! I was hooked, in 4 months I lost 12.5 inches off my body, my clothes were falling off. During this time I was gaining my confidence back, becoming stronger mentally as well as physically. I joined some other groups for dancing and hiking, did some travelling, meeting new people and really stepping out of my comfort zone. Even took part in Balance Wars!! I still love my morning 6am classes, 5 days a week and my weekly PT session with Neil, and Saturdays unless I am hiking. It is me time, my personal care time. I know myself too well to say I would go to evening classes regularly, I would be tired and excuses will stop me. But when I do, I enjoy them all. Although I haven’t gotten to a boxing class yet, but I will! Everyone working or working out at Balance Fitness is very encouraging, you always see a friendly face when you arrive. Instructors will help if you need a modification, and they have a sense of humor too. I have been to many gyms, but Balance Fitness is a community of people trying to be our best selves inside and out, some days are great, some not so great, we pick each up either way. Non scale victories are measured and celebrated! I am happy to say, I am down 45 lbs.and when hiking I can carry a heavy pack, and keep up with people half my age. And since I started in spring of 2018, went from a size 16/18 pant to an 8. Which I really just want to were inside out so everyone can see the tag!
